He had thought it impossible but his love bore him a child, who also had their gift and curse. The two lovers took their child and continued their mission trying to awaken civilisation, until they began to feel weary of their efforts. They both felt strongly the call of sleep and for him, right now, it felt as though his body had already begun shutting down. He did not understand what was happening but he knew that all he needed to do was to sleep and now he could, knowing that his home and family were protected. He walked to the child's room and found the toddler fast asleep. He kissed the child on the forehead and dragged himself to bed. Now in bed he propped himself up with one arm and lazily caressed the mother of his child, then he leaned over and deeply kissed her full lips, she stirred but did not wake. His eyes began to grow heavy but then he heard a voice:
"So this is where you nest." The unknown voice said and the man got off his bed alert to the intruder. "Who are you? What do you want?" The man asked the intruder. "You don't remember me?" The intruder replied and other intruders walked out from the shadows. The man's heart began to race as he wondered how they got past his security system. "We are the convent you violated in the second world war. We found out about this place and we've been waiting for you here." The intruder added with a smile revealing his fangs. "Sweet heart, what's going on?" The woman asked her lover, rousing herself from sleep to see her other surrounded. The man turned to reassure her and in that instance the intruders attacked him and all thirteen of them sank their fangs deep into him, feeding on his lifeblood. The woman screamed and the man tried to free himself but he was paralysed by their feeding. He could feel his essence being drained and saw his other coming to his aid, so he spoke to her mind and dissuaded her. Asking instead that she saved herself and their begotten and she cried with a broken heart but did as he had asked.
As the vile creatures took retribution on the man and removed his essence from his body, the man wondered what the point of this act was. Their anger was misdirected and they would not be satisfied with his death nor would they be satisfied with another's. He was saddened to think that even beings like him, who had lived through Human history and witnessed their actions remained blind, choosing to fill their desires with empty things. He thought of his love and his child and wished that they remained unharmed, able to continue their mission. He was saddened that he would not see the day that Humanity remembered what they had forgotten but he was at peace knowing that he had lived a long and full life. Even as he embraced death he wondered if the future generations of Humans would ever remember what it truly means to be Human.
