I cautiously crossed the doorway, deliberately stepping over the threshold. I look around what at first sight seemed like an empty room but I smiled and moved the dust with my logos, revealing the invisible figure; I launched a bolt of energy at it, the logos washed over it and it became visible.

"Pitiful mortal, you dare defy the Diogenes." The revealed woman screamed and the orb on top her staff began to glow. She was no Diogenes but merely a Sage, a glorified servant of these so called children of gods. The room darkened and dark figures grew from the ground and they were armed. Like hell I'd let her finish this spell, I thought, collecting logos within. If its a battle of logos she wants... I wove certain sigils in the air calling forth an elemental beast. The creature of fire was a giant dragon, made of molten magma and it destroyed the Sage's spell before it dissipated.

As the air settled I sprang to action, knowing the spell she had cast, like mine, required a recovery period. As I approached she cast a force shield bubble but still I advanced. I felt something odd happen to my body armour, I felt an internal engine come to life and I drew in more power from my reservoir. Like a hot knife through butter, I pierced her shield and held her impaled form by my hilt. I retrieved my blade from it's lifeless sheath and proceeded towards the throne. I had used a lot of my reservoir and I wondered if I had enough Logos left to activate the gateway and there was no time to feed... The spells I had cast used up almost half of my reservoir, what was left would have to do; I'd feed on the other side.

Suddenly, I heard a rustling to my left side and I turned to see the bloodied form of the sage rise from the floor, enveloped in a aura of deep purple energy. I began to feel a wind within the throne room, which was accompanied by a gruesome wail. I watched transfixed as the sage became a shadow, a wraith; and it launched itself at me. Instinctively, I cast a protective shield about myself but the force of the contact threw me back, off my feet. What manner of vile beast is this... I thought as I cast a sharp wind that merely passed through the creature's form.

I heard what sounded like laughter from the creature and I charged at it with my blades bare. I swung quick, practiced, precise arcs that didn't seem to come in contact with the being but merely pass through it. In that moment of my confusion, the creature wrapped itself about me, suffocating and attempting to possess me. Never again will I allow myself to be captured... Never again will I fall at the feet of my enemy... I brought forth a large amount of Logos and I felt the creature change in attempt to suppress it. I brought even more out until I was radiating enough to cast the only spell that could save me.

And with that thought I called down the Amour of Ares; I erupted releasing tremendous energy and the force of the spell removed the shadow from me. But before it escaped I reached forth, my golden armour shining like the brightest star, and I snatch its fleeting form from the air. Summoning even more Logos, I trapped it in a void and watched it get sucked away to nothingness. When it was gone I felt a wave rush over me and I fell to one knee. I had never before used so much Logos in so short a time and my body was not used to it. I sensed my reservoir and I had about a third left from what Athena had given me, barely enough to activate the gateway. On the other side, I will be able to manage only minor spells, at least until I fed.

However, the thought that I had just cast one of the seven arcane spells made me smile, even if I would never had been able to without Athena's help. Did she know that I would face this creature? What was that wraith-like creature? Was that a Maget? No bother, my way is clear, I need no longer delay. I looked to my hands and saw the golden Amour of Ares dissolve into my skin... I rose to my feet and walked behind the throne and I saw a door, I opened it and walked through. The mysterious gateway stood open and welcoming, and I stepped unto the platform. I collected and projected Logos and then I wove the sigils and the gateway activated. I felt myself split and reform, becoming incredibly small and then darkness...

Note: This is the end of Rise Of A Champion, Ezra's story continues in another tale called New World... I hope you enjoyed Rise Of A Champion.
