I stood on the rooftop overlooking the city, my city, awakened by the night. The atmospheric pollution hung over the sky, momentarily denying us the shimmer of the stars. I took in a deep breath of the chilled, humid air and filled my lungs, slowly breathing out. I was about to start patrol, on the streets I had called my home for nineteen years and as always I felt butterflies. As I walked down the stairs, I secured my mask over my face and double checked my equipment; mace, metal nunchaku and my home made stun gloves. I was geared up and good to go, I reached the landing and entered the elevator going to the ground floor. I focused my mind while blocking out the mildly irritating elevator music, until the bell rang and the doors opened to the ground floor. I walked briskly across the foyer towards the main doors.
"Out on patrol again, Night Watch?" The security guard asked, I looked to him and nodded. I rarely spoke once I donned my alter ego, my real persona, a defender of the people and knight for peace like in the movies. "You be careful, there are some crazy folk out there." The security guard added, I nodded and continued out the door. He was a nice man and he always seemed so worried about me, sometimes I wondered if he thought I lived here. I hopped on my bike and began my patrol. (tbc...)
