Many hours had passed and I spent my time helping the homeless and giving food to the hungry. It frustrated me to think that in a world as prosperous as ours, there were still people without food or a place to live. I was sitting on a dumpster listening to an old veteran tell me his stories, little did he know I knew them all already. You see I am an orphan and I grew up on these streets, many times when I got into trouble for stealing food to quieten my noisy belly, he would help me out. Lucky for me, I got adopted but what about him and others like him... Who would adopt them? I watched the sky as I often did at this hour, close to the end of my patrol and I could see the North Star bright in the sky. I gazed for a while trying to make out constellations and imagining what kind of beings lived in those far away worlds. I wondered what they would think of us, of me... If only I was an alien like Superman or rich like Batman, then maybe I could really do something.

Suddenly the starry sky was blocked out by the oddest looking clouds, I turned my head to see the clouds stretch out as far as I could see in any direction. I jumped down from the dumpster and looked to the old veteran, who was now standing watching ahead; then he began to squint his eyes and took a few steps forward. I started to hear voices and I knew what was approaching, my main reason for waiting by this corner at the end of my patrol. The voices of drunk folk out looking for trouble carried to me and distracted me from the odd weather phenomenon. (tbc)
