@Charlesthepig wrote an interesting blog post the other night, titled "Monkeys Uncles and Aunties" in which he asked the question where is the human race going in terms of Evolution. As much as I would like to answer that the future is the cast of Heroes, (as I have a thing for Claire) and that mutants will outnumber us normals...I just can't. Because of one thing. Technology.
As a race, we no longer need to evolve. If a problem arises, then instead of growing an extra eye, gills, or leg, we just sit and think. We think about the problem and how to overcome it with the use of tech.
Is that such a bad thing? For a geek such as myself, no. No it is not. I have to admit that I love anything even slightly techie. My last car purchase was based on what gadgets came with the car.
Let's face it. I would imagine that most of the people reading this post are reading it on an iPhone. A phone. Yes it is sexy, and good looking, and could do a million things with a billion apps. But it is a PHONE.
10 years ago having a camera on your phone had just been introduced, and apps were basically shitty little program's like Snake and maybe a calculator if you were lucky, and you couldn't install new ones unless you were as geeky as me, or you had a million pounds to spend on stupid services such as Jamster.
10 years ago the military granted the use of its satellites to the general public. Meaning that for the first time, we could have a tiny little computer in our cars telling us to turn the wrong way up a one way street. In 2000 could you have ever dreamed such a thing would become the norm in the next decade? That kind of thing was left for science fiction.
Laptops were not even the norm 10 years ago. Now most people are buying tablets. Slate computers which are no thicker then an exercise book, which we stroke and caress.
It's not even survival of the fittest anymore as the medical world comes up with even more and more ways to kill illness, and stop diseases. A company now has a medical 3D Bio Printer, which is able to PRINT tissue and cells for transplants! I am sorry but 10 years ago nobody believed in 3D HDTV yet alone a printer that can basically print body parts!!!!
In 2000, sitting on the toilet and being able to update "followers" on your status of "taking a dump" like some modern day messiah was the thing that dictators had wet dreams about, and now thanks to FaceBook and Twitter its completely normal. Yeah. Thanks Facebook and Twitter...
There is still much more to look forward too. Have you seen Googles Project Glass? If not, get on YouTube and take a look. Nevermind that Android is a pile of hot sweaty geek jizz. In ten years time we will all have devices like this.
Electrical cars are actually starting to become more useful now. Instead of having a range of 2 miles, you can almost get 100 out of them now. And for those wanting to go further we have Hydrogen.
Virgin are about to put paying tourists in space for the first time. New hyper sonic planes are being designed so that flights from London to Sydney will take only 4 hours. Also both Google and VW are working on cars that drive themselves. Take that cruise control!!
So you see, we no longer need to evolve. We either think our way out of the problem, or just kill whatever the problem is.Scince has killed Evolution. Darwin is probably spinning in his grave. And the church no doubt are still fucked off....
Evolution = Technology • Opuss № I
