We are the wise ones.

Our Mommies' and Daddies' words to us are chains and little lanterns. We bind them about our necks and let them dangle close to our hearts, proud like medals.

And they are good.

And they are very heavy.

Because the chains are getting tighter and they're pulling you away

from the quiet girl who's crying now and begging you to stay.

She knows you can't.

The chains have got to guide you away because it is right.

"But sometimes," she whispers like a goodbye. "Don't tell, but sometimes I wish we were fools."
