'Lissa. Lissa, did you hear?' 'Oh? Being civil again now are we?' What the hell? She was the one suggesting that things were different than they were. 'Actually no. I just slapped Sirius Black for attempting to murder Severus Snape.' Melissa laughed and raised her eyebrows. 'Wow. So soon after being a grumpy guts you've attained an actual sense of humour. Someone's been tampering with my friend.' Honestly, why won't she take anything seriously? 'I'm glad you think it's funny. Would you have created a comedy sketch for his funeral? Perhaps one of his death? Yes I really feel like laughing about this.' I think she finally realised I wasn't laughing and looked concerned. 'Sirius isn't a murderer Lily. No matter how much you might not like him.' 'Yes I know he isn't a murderer.' she looked relieved, 'But he would be if Potter hadn't had the sense to stop him.' She looked frightened. I let out an exasperated sigh. 'I'm not going mad. Please Lissa. They're keeping something secret. It's dangerous and Sev found out. They threatened to kill him for it. This is big. We need to find out.' I was pleading. 'Lily, I'm telling you they aren't-' 'THEY ARE.' I screamed at her, 'They said so themselves.' 'Okay. Lily, if this gets us into trouble...' 'We won't.' Okay, I didn't really think that but we NEEDED to find out. I set off to find Severus. Melissa was going to find Black, see if she could coax it out of him. I doubted she could but it was worth a try. Wow. It was the first time I'd seen Sev in the vincity of The Marauders without being publicly humiliated. I guessed they really didn't want him to blab. Well, of course they didn't. 'Sev?' I said quietly. I waited for him to look up to sit down next to him. 'What was that about?' 'Potter and Black thought it would be a good idea to kill me.' he didn't look at me, just stared out across the lake. 'I know. Got a detention for it but I took three of them down before we were caught.' Sev looked at me and smiled then. And on the extremely rare occasions that he smiled it was impossible not to smile back. 'What's their secret Sev? Why is it so dangerous?' And just like that the happiness was gone. Like a dementor had just glided into our midst. 'No Lily. Don't go looking for trouble.' 'That's exactly what James said.' I spat. The way I compared him to Potter along with the use of his first name had the effect I was going for. I hated manipulating my friend but it was necessary. 'I won't tell you but... Just watch Lupin really carefully.' I looked into his eyes fit a second more, wondering wether I could suck a little more information out of him but thought, no. 'Thanks Sev. I'll make sure I do.' I would have stayed to talk to him longer but my stomach was growling and I could feel Melissa growing impatient waiting for me.
