Ryan She was strange. One moment strong and proud, the next shy and quiet. I couldn't understand her. It was like she changed every single moment - hopping from joy to fear to sadness in what felt like nano-seconds. Truly odd. Maybe it was due to the fact she changed emotions, and 'absorbed' bad emotions. At the moment she was sad and depressed, and I decided that this was her worst mood. Sure, sarcastic and pessimistic was a bit annoying, but it was better than this. She was just too...sad. But thinking about that sentence, she might be entitled to sadness. I think she not only knows her brother died, but she probably also watched him die as well - she could be having nightmares about it that cause her to scream his name when she wakes up. Suddenly, her head snapped up to look at me. "Do you know any places where human teenagers - people your age - traditionally gather?" I thought for a moment. "School?" I suggested with a shrug. She nodded. "Yes, that would work. When can I go to the school?" I shook my head with a smile. "It's Sunday today, but you might be able to go tomorrow. But getting into school isn't as easy as that; you have to have a uniform, know which lessons you're going to, have been allowed to join the school, that sort of thing." She nodded. "Could I do all this in one day?" "One? I doubt it. Two days would only have a tiny bit more of a chance. But if you get it sent off this week, then you could go to school next monday. I'll even teach you how to act at school, if you want." She smiled. "That would be much appreciated. How do I join the school?" I chuckled. "It'll take a while, and we'll need moms help...but we could pull it off." I paused. "Why do you want to go to school?" Her smile faded slightly. "I want to meet other angels - maybe they can tell me how to get back up to heaven. If I can get to heaven, I might be able to meet someone who knows me, or I might meet someone who knows me here. That would help my memory, right?" She said in a small voice. I nodded, although honestly I had no idea.
We sat on the lounge floor. It was Wednesday, after I'd come back from school and explained to Anna what lessons I'd had today - she made me tell her everything about them everyday so that she could know what school was like. We sat in silence for a moment, side by side, before Anna leaned her head against my shoulder and whispered something. Unable to hear her, I leant closer. "Volans." She whispered into my ear. "What does that mean?" I asked her. She shrugged against me. "It's a word used to gain the trust - or at least help - of other angels. It means that an angel has grown to trust the human enough to tell them the secret word, so the human is trustworthy, and also knows about the angels." I nodded. We sat in silence for a little while, her head rested against my shoulder, my arm wrapped around her back. I whispered "Why did you tell me?" She smiled. "Because you've helped me. And I think I trust you now." She whispered back. I smiled at her, and we stayed like that for the rest of the evening, in a comfortable silence, as the sun set before our eyes.
