He stood there, his blue and his black burning into my retina. I knew that he would always be the most beautiful thing in the world to me, I had seen this man as... An angel. But he was more than an angel. He was more than I knew.
"I..." I paused, looking him up and down. The blush in his cheeks reminded me of something. "I feel like I know you."
He nodded, "I feel the same way." He walked to my side and sat down on my bed. "I know why we feel this way, if you want to know."
I nodded, sitting down next to him. He looked at me and smiled weakly, his eyes filled with tears and I could feel my heart breaking. I reached out and wiped his tears away, cradling his face in both hands. "Don't cry."
"I'm sorry, I'm just remembering the first time we did this."
"The first time?" I asked, drawing my hands back to my lap.
"We've met before, in other lives." He looked so sincere that I couldn't find it in myself to disbelieve him. "We have both lived a multitude of lives. I... We were destined to find each other in all of them. Sometimes we did, sometimes we didn't. Things happen outside of our control."
I nodded, that made sense to me.
"The first time, you were a little girl who had gotten lost and wished upon a shooting star to find her way home, then I appeared and lead you home.
"The next I can clearly remember was being a lion, caged and tormented. You killed me in a fight. I couldn't strike you, I remembered the first time we had met.
"Another time, I was your dog and you loved me dearly. You cried for a month after I died then.
"You were blonde and you didn't love me back, left me waiting for you on a street corner. I remember the lipstick coated smile you gave.
"We grew up together, best friends. We had a lot of those. I remember them all, making you laugh was more important to me than oxygen and food. I loved those lifetimes. We shared secrets and hiding places and candies and notes.
"You killed me, again. You didn't mean to, so I forgave you. I always forgave you for everything, I couldn't stay mad at you.
"Even if you and I didn't meet, I was still in love with you. You were the same throughout all your lives, I changed, matured, grew. You remained - remain - beautiful and perfect."
He looked at me, shyly glancing up at me. I suddenly remembered, I remembered all of it. I remembered calling him James, Mickey, Samuel, Leo, Marcus... I remember calling him love, dear, sweetheart... I remembered it all."
"I remember you."
"I thought you would."
"I remember you."
