2.2 Guilty Until Proven Innocent

Chapter 2. Exhibit A (Part 2)

“"What’s this?"” I heard the store manager Greg yell. He must have
found the slimy red trail. I hurried towards him.

My face a look of shock, as if I were totally clueless. “"What happened?”" I ask.

"“I don’t know. It looks like blood….”"

“"You think so?"” I ask as I swing a tin of beans into the back of his head. He fell face first to the floor. I never really had liked him
but I never would have killed him. He was dragged along to the
freezer but before I got there, I stopped on hearing two members of staff already there. They were talking; they'd found Daz.

“"Oh my god.”What do we do?" Said Maureen, our Deputy Manager. “"I best go get Greg.”"

"“I think you should ring the police."” Said Brain all high pitched and scared. "“The killer could still be here. Ooo, I'm so scared."

I left Greg’s body on the floor so I could join them. “"Greg says we need to clean up this mess. This ketchup runs round the store.”"

Maureen came up to me and put a hand on my shoulder. “"Oh Crystal
sweetie, I don’t know how to break this to you.”" She took a deep
breath. “"It’'s not ketchup, it's blood. Erm...Daz has been hurt.”"

Brian started throwing panic shapes all over the place. “"Hurt?
Hurt!”" He screamed. “"Oh my god. He’s dead! Dead!"

"“Brian!”" Maureen snapped.

"“What!?”" I gasp with shock and surprise, despite putting the body in
the freezer only moments before.

“Crystal, you stay here with Brian.”" Maureen advises. “"Keep him calm. I’'m
going to the office to call the Police.”"

“"I think I’'m going to be sick.”" Brian starts prancing around in a
circle like a chicken trying to regurgitate something.

Maureen quickly ran away leaving me to deal with him. As soon as she was out of sight. I grabbed a jar of pickles off the shelf and put Brian out of his misery.

I had no time and quickly gave chase to Maureen. I got into the office just as she picked up the phone.

“"Are you alright Crystal?”" She asked pausing. Her fingers hovering over the key pad.
