Instinct: Chapter 2 (Part 1)
Kate
I was running just off the embankment of the A12, the main dual carriageway between the counties. As I pummelled myself onward, I could feel the wind whistling through my hair. The adrenaline was beating in my chest. I knew my time was limited.
I was cautious to keep out of sight of the passing cars; even though I was moving so fast anyone who saw me would find me difficult to make out. I was likely to appear as just a blur of colour but if they did see me, they would be able to make out my slender silhouette and as I raced past them they would question their eyes. I was running faster than any racer could and faster than a cheetah could. I was in a different league, a different breed. Still, I made sure I was hidden as much as possible as I didnt want to cause an accident.
As I neared Pickles Farm, I could already hear the dance music. To the human ear the noise was unnoticeable, but with my sharp hearing I could clearly detect it. I began to make my way towards the party. As I continued down the dirt track, I could see the gathering of people ascending towards the event. Many were in high spirits, intoxicated by various substances, making them vulnerable and prey. I sighed with remorse for their naivety.
I could see at the end of the track, an old barn that was to be used for the venue. Someone stood at the door taking peoples money in return for entry. I joined the queue of ravers. I stuffed my hands into the pockets of my leather jacket. It was unzipped, revealing a neon blue tank top. The couple in front of me were pilled up, I could tell from there wide eyes and dilated pupils. The pair were behaving in an overtly sexual manner. They kept stroking each others faces and kissing. It was amazing they were aware that the queue was even moving forward but somehow they managed to shuffle along.
My nightmares were confirmed as I met the guy allowing admissions. His eyes were speckled with gold flints. As he welcomed each guest, he grinned. The attendees were oblivious to the menacing crocodile smile that distinctly displayed his protruding carnivorous fangs. I knew then, the rest would be inside. This minion was the least of my worries; I needed to seek out the pack leader.
