Instinct: Chapter 3 (Part 2)
Leo
Part of me hoped that tonight I would prove myself wrong. As a young lad I had always had a soft spot for the heroine in comics. Like Kate, they were always stunning with unique abilities. I had fantasised that one day I would get to kiss one of these sexy super being, always wearing revealing lycra, showing off their hot physique. I never dared imagine that it could ever be a reality. This was supposed to be my fantasy but it didnt feel right. Why didn't my fantasies ever play out the way I imagined them. I wanted everything to go back to normal. Well as normal as life can be with a girl like Kate on my arm. That was the only strange thing in life I was comfortable with.
I had taken my caffeine pill again but I didnt need it. My mind would give me no rest today. It seemed to take ages before I heard her sneak out the room. I had begun to believe that perhaps it was all a crazy joke in my head. Then I felt the subtle motion of the mattress dipping as her weight was removed. My hand slid under the pillow and I could feel the cool feeling of steel brush against my finger tips. I was ready for her today. I lay in wait until I heard the gentle rattle of the letter box as the front door was pulled to. I quickly jumped out of bed, still clasping the object in my hand.
Once again I pulled my joggers on over my clothes and a hooded sweater over my head. I hurried down the stairs, racing so fast I missed out half the steps on my way down. At the bottom, I pushed my feet into my trainers and then I was out the door. The air barely had a chance to touch my skin as I pushed the steel key into the car door ready to pursue her.
Once in the car, I began to follow her slowly down the road. I was always careful never to get too close. At least this time I wouldnt have to leave. I saw her disappear down that same alley way. I parked up and was soon following down the dark dirty track. It was a short cut and at the end of the track I was in the moonlit park. It looked different at night. It looked unsafe and you couldnt picture children playing here. There was an unpleasant buzz in the air that caused the hairs on my arm to stand upright. "I'm just spooking myself out!" I thought.
I could see her on the other side of the park. She really did move fast. She scanned her eyes around again and I pressed my back against the tree. I held my breath in case she could hear me. I wondered what other powers she might have. I dared to peek again. She was already mid way up the wall. I held up my mobile phone to capture the moment.
"Gotcha!"
This is the proof I needed tomorrow to reassure my mind it was real and I hadnt imagined it all. I would also study it to see if I could find out how she did it, whether there was some tool or gadget. I would even use it to confront her about this, as she was bound to deny the truth otherwise. Heroes always want to protect their secret identity. Assuming her life with me is her alibi. I was sick of unanswered questions and it was time we had no secrets from each other.
She was gone, out of sight and it was time for me to head home. I turned around holding my picture out in front, proudly. I bumped straight into a woman. I wondered if she had seen what I had. Her long hair was white as snow and her eyes burned gold like fire. They looked unnatural.
She held out her hand, Give me your phone! She snarled.
