A true best friend...
Sadness. Despair. Totally alone. When my world crumbles down, heart beating sore. In need of a friend. In need of a hug. I hear your light footsteps, your head pops out the door.
It cocks to one side at the sight of my face, Tear-streamed, betrayed, filled with disgrace. You don't make a sound, just pad to my side. You're ready to listen. No envy, no pride.
You plop down on the ground, your head in my lap. You give a small whimper, I give a small laugh. I stroke your white fur, and sniff back a tear. You lick my knee gently, there's no need for fear.
And we sit there, tail wagging, as the sun sets again. I smile when I realize you're my truest best friend. So I'll hold you close, whatever the cost. I'm happy to know that in you I can trust.
Inspired by Woody, my dog.
