I am not a pound sign, My colour is not green.
I don't form a paper note, Or belong in a bank.
But still you chase me, Still they come.
To take away my pride, My tusks are gone.
My fur a coat, And other things besides.
I wasn't meant to be a belt, A handbag or a purse.
But beautiful as I look, Some just see a pound.
I fear the sound of hunters, Of human on my land.
I shudder as they walk away, With live stock in their hand.
No-one wears a human, Or displays them in their home.
So why do I lose out to you, For money and your greed.
My tusks belong upon my face, My skin upon my hide.
I am not a pound sign, My colour is not green.
