Even though he did not understand, She knew in her heart, he had to go, He smiled and softly squeezed her hand,

She looked at him, a false expression, bland, She sighed and listened to the wind blow, Even though he did not understand,

Her toes drew patterns in the sand, The light from the moon set the sea aglow, He smiled and softly squeezed her hand,

He looked at the sea, carrying a ship, so grand, Floating towards him, like a snail, so slow, Even though he did not understand,

He had to fight in no mans land, Leave his true love, ever alone, so He smiled and softly squeezed her hand,

He was to a different world, and, A broken heart she refused to show, Even though he did not understand, He smiled and softly squeezed her hand.

I hope you like this villanelle poem. There are lots of rules and in class we had to write one- it's quite difficult to get the hang of, but there are beautiful poems of its nature. Enjoy, and please like and share!
