Warning major rant!! #disabilityaware
So I've come to the conclusion that society sucks, not all of you, but there are a lot of ignorant people out there. Ill tell you how I came to this conclusion. Niquita has ASD, learning difficulties, Sensory processing disorder, language disorder, auditory processing disorder and a poor working memory. All diagnosed by specialists in the field. We are all going through thorough genetic testing to see whether Niquita has a genetic cause to all of this. Therefore she's classed as disabled and a special needs kid. I don't see her that way, I see her as a beautiful child who struggles daily with her needs but she's perfect to me. As a society though to get any help children like Niquita need to be labelled and that's ok with me if she gets help. Here comes the ignorance part, so I was talking to one of my old friends from school earlier, who may I add knows that my child has special needs, she and her hubby to be told me that they don't want a "spastic" child and that's society's problem currently "spastic children becoming adults and having more spastic children". They continued with "if we ever did have a child and it was a spastic, we would drown it". This proves ignorance and a complete lack of knowledge about anything in this world. They then went quiet and said "oops sorry you have a spastic kid". I'm not a violent person but by god did I want to seriously injure those evil people. Safe to say I will never be speaking to them again. I know there's quite a few people on Opuss who have special children like I do, and I'm sure you will agree that it's people like them that are the "spastics" not our wonderful children. I wish I had the strength and courage that Niquita shows every day. We as a society need to be exposed more to disabilities and the facts. Because without them we become ignorant just like those "friends" I spoke to earlier. I am aware that we cannot shelter our children from all names and criticisms in life but I will not accept anyone's cruelty or ignorance about my child in that manner. Children who face difficulties are far more robust strong determined and happy than any "normal" person. They face challenges every minute of everyday yet they carry on and plough through. These children are the unsung Hero's of our society. Niquita is a black and white kid, sometimes it's black and sometimes white, no grey area, and I wish in that respect we all were more like that. Our country is the biggest PC society anywhere and yet when it comes to disabilities we don't protect those with them enough. Sure there's procedures within HR laws that protects them but that's about it. I think it's time for a change and a time to spread the word about disabilities.
I would like to ask those of you who have children with special needs/disabilities a favour. I'm suggesting we write poetry about the struggles our children face, and the ones we face as parents. And possibly a diary of a typical day in the life.. Then I'm going to do my upmost to put them all together and get them published as a resource to society themselves. If you can help that'd be great!! And even if you don't have children with special needs I'd still love your take too :) Tag your post #disabilityaware and tag me please!! Also if you read this and know anyone on here who'd be able to help, tag them on this post!! Thanks guys :)
