I am the lonely leaf, That falls solitary from the tree, Alone and drifting to the ground, For passers by to step on me,
I am no longer with my friends, The green lush leaves that still remain, Instead I am brown and mucky, Crushed and shattered and in pain,
In time I will decompose, I will rot and crumble within the soil, Disintegrate and degenerate, My beauty wilted and left to spoil,
My memory will no longer show, In the breeze that whispers through my friends, Until the autumnal tide blows them, To the ground where they will meet their end,
Our lifespan is only seasonal, Then the tree is the only survivor around, For I and all my branch mates, Are scattered and buried underground.
