Just because you can't see it, Doesn't mean it's not there, It's deep rooted in the brain, Under the scalp, under the hair,
A chemical imbalance, A mismatch of sorts, Serotonin and dopamine, Along with norepinephrine,
They're out of whack, Out of tune, Needing to realign, For normality to resume,
Chronic depression, OCD and anxiety, Only a few, Of the mental health variety,
Because you can't see it, Does that mean, It's not debilitating, A disability?
Maybe you should, Think this through, Before you attempt, A judgemental view,
A disability is defined, As a "disability of being able to perform, As a consequence of physical or mental unfitness" So anything other than societies norm,
If you are struck down, With a mental health issue, You need support and empathy, A hug an ear and a tissue,
Some people may regain their health, Some people may not, But just because outside appearances, Shows a full working body they've got,
Doesn't mean the, Insides not broken, But you'll never know, Unless the truth is spoken,
We need to reform, Our judgmental views, The people that have a mental health illness, Have a disability they did not choose,
Which is the same with physical disabilities, No one chooses to have them, Which is why awareness is needed, The reason I put together paper and pen.
