A waiting room full,
Of people
Like you,
They manage
A smile even
With the illness
They're going through,
Strength and
Courage shown,
Very rare you'll
Hear a moan,
A place that
Should be
Bleak,
Is full of smiles,
Words of encouragement
You speak,
The cancer club,
All at different
Stages,
The room full
Of people of all
Different ages,
You all find
The energy to
Help each other,
Like sisters
And brothers,
A pat on the back,
Gentle hugs,
Helping each other
Get on track,
Chemo patients and
Radiotherapy,
A harsh treatment,
But a necessity,
Strips the immune
System,
Wipes it out,
Attacking cancer
With a clout,
Leaving patients
With painful hands
And feet,
One doctor describes
It as
Bitter sweet,
IV drips,
Loss of hair,
Ashen skin,
Faces grey and fair,
Looking wiped out,
Yet the turn up at
Your lips,
Tells a thousand
Tales,
You won't be beaten,
You won't quit,
Blood tests and scans,
You've had them all,
With great humour,
You've stood tall,
A major op and a stoma
Later,
You're an inspiration to
The nation,
You've fought frustration,
And humiliation,
You're not quite there yet,
But ill be there for you,
Every step of the way,
Ill do all I can do,
Ill hold your hand,
Ill walk with you,
Appointments and scans
You've still got a few,
Ill go with you,
I've lost one person from cancer already,
I miss her everyday,
So you better be ready,
The road is winding,
With many twists and bends,
You will beat this illness,
It will meet its end,
The waiting room will empty at the end of the day,
Some patients will not make it,
Some patients will,
The common denominator their smile,
Their determination and strength may slip for a while,
But come morning shine its back in place,
Ready for the
Waiting room
With smiles upon
Their face.
