"Meow?"a small cat prowled around the tree.

I picked it up, it was the color of coal, and was skinny and shivering. I rested my head against the tree, with the cat on my lap.

The rain died down by morning. The leaves were still wet, and the water dripped onto my face. The cat was gone but later arrived with a fish in its jaws. From the lake that ran through town. The cat led me to the forest, there was a small clearing, perfect enough for a small hut. I broke off branches and smoothed them with rocks. In the end, I had crafted a jumble of sticks, to form a hut, with a low door, and a open hole for smoke to come up, that I could easily cover during rain and snow. I crafted a bucket from bark to get clean water to drink. The cat picked up thick twigs for a fire. The grass was clean, and fresh. So it was ok to place the fish down.

"I'll named you Elf"I said.

"Your my little helper." That night it rained again, I covered the hole with thick bark. The water that leaked I put in my second bucket to use for washing hands and Elf. I had also mad a little rough tray for food. Ever since I was young, I had spent weeks with dad in the forest crafting and learning to survive. I soaked my wooden utensils in the rain water to smooth them out for eating.

The cat learned to hunt, I usually sent the cat out to rip wool from the sheep. I lit a candle, I had a smoothed piece of bark. That I had 2 fish on it for me and Elf. I had sowed the wool to create a nice blanket during the cold winters.

It was summer, during the nights I slept on the bare ground. Without the wool blanket because of the burning heat.

It was my 3rd year in the wilderness. Elf was full grown, it was bigger then normal. And was keener in sight, smell, and hearing then a normal cat. Elf usually retuned with 6 fish, it helped ever since me and Elf started to eat 3 fish a day.

I put the food in a square hole next to my bed. The floor and wall was clothed in cloth, ice was placed upon the cloth, then had sticks over it. That's where I placed the food so it stayed cool. Every moment I wasn't eating, it stayed covered by thick wool to keep cool. I packed the 3 extra fish, wrapped myself in a black cloak and headed into town with Elf.

The trading store was in the middle of town. I traded the 3 fish in. 5 coins for each fish, I had 15 cents besides the birthday money I had gotten before I left. All together I had 27 cents. I picked out a little pastry for my birthday, and 4 rolls of bread. I was left with 2 cents. I pocketed the money and headed home. I lay in bed, after having the buttered muffin with Elf and splitting a roll.
