'Hey is that you?'
Bex peered into the darkness; she shivered with the cool night air. No reply. Something rustled in the undergrowth; far off in the distance a dog howled. She shifted her position by the large oak tree and hugged herself. She hadn't heard a footstep after all; it was just some night creature. Why wasn't she here yet?. This was always the place they met up.
Growing restless she started to pace up and down the leave strewn ground. She peered off into the distance looking for her but all she saw was the eerie shadows cast by the moonlight.
A further ten minutes passed but no one turned up. She was getting angry now, just as she decided to leave the woods her head snapped around as a dead branch cracked and leaves rustled. It's probably a rat she told herself not wanting to get spooked. This woods was a lot nicer in the daylight than in the dark, with its tall, old oaks that stretched to the sky and the blanket of moss and leaves on the floor. Now, everywhere she looked she saw monstrous shadows.
That's it, she told herself, it's been over 30 minutes, it was time go. Boy was she going to kill Sammie for not showing up, Sammie had been getting on Bexs nerves for a while now, Bex made her popular and Sammie can't help but be a fucking nerd... She began to walk, then stopped, she realised she was walking to where she'd heard that oversized rat. Swallowing hard, she took two steps back. Surely what she heard was just a rat that would scuttle away when she came near? And the rustling of tree branches was just the wind. Right?. But, there was no wind shifting her hair. She took a step forward convincing herself it was just a rat, but when she looked into the shadows that loomed in front of her she made out an outline, the thing she saw was as big as her. She saw shadows moving swiftly in the shadows. Her breath caught in her throat, she stepped back, staring in to the shadows. She could make out 3 shapes by the silver light of the moon, one moved, towards her. There was breathing, soft and confident...and human.
