I once met Chief Minton Socks With beardy face and curly locks he ruled the roost with an iron fist And in the morning gave out a list Of things to do and things to mend Of things to pack and things to send His loyal workers ran around And worked and toiled without a sound Underground and going deeper They never once did check the meter That measured the gas in the cavern Especially down by the tavern Cos after work they liked a drink And sit around and talk and think Chief himself did like a smoke His big old pipe full of dope And so it was one fateful night That old pipe he did try to light But all the gases did ignite But blew them all out of sight
So that is how the story ends Chief Minton Socks no longer sends Things of beauty , things of pleasure Things to polish , things to treasure And on the ground where he used to go Theve gone and built a big Tesco
