As I crept nearer I could just make out a light in the top left hand window. A silent breeze stirred the trees. I felt a chill down my spine. The light moved. It re-appeared in the next window. Suddenly, there was a flash and then the light went out. The house was in darkness. Behind me the wind moaned. I turned slightly. There was… no one there. A cloak of mist swept into the air and blurred my vision. As I carried on carefully moving closer to the house in the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of something shiny. I turned around and crouched down to pick it up. I examined it closely. It looked sort of like a charm that had fallen of a necklace, it was in the shape of a five pointed star. It had some peculiar writing on it and I couldn’t quite make out what it was but now was not the right time or place to find out so I placed it in my pocket to examine later. I thought of the reason of why I was here in the first place, to investigate the house. The wind whistled softly telling me to enter. I looked up at it and gulped, I knew something strange was happening in there, and there was only one way to find out for sure what was going on…I had to go in. It was getting terribly dark so I turned on my flashlight, took a breath and knocked on the door. I waited…no reply. I then felt my trembling fingers reach out for the door knob. Before I even touched it the door swung open and bashed against the inside of the wall. I jumped in shock and tried to run away but my feet felt as if they were glued to the ground. I took a deep breath. I was obviously imagining this, it’s probably just a bad dream I told myself. My mouth was sour and dry from the fear but I knew what I needed to do so without any second thought I entered the house. As I moved closer into the house I could tell that the paintwork was flacked and neglected, the brickwork was crumbling away, there were cobwebs everywhere, a blanket of dust layered on top of the floorboards and the old vintage furniture was covered with sheets. There were several books scattered around the room, camouflaged in the dust. I picked on up and blew the dust off it. I shone the flashlight over it and then realised something, there was the same image of the five pointed star as there was on the necklace…what did it mean? I opened up the book and the title read ‘Witchcraft, Theory and Practise.’ The person who lived in this house, she was a witch. I gasped at the thought of this and not knowingly I dropped the book to the floor. Just at that moment hundreds of mice came scattering from underneath the sofa and out through the door. My eyes widened in disbelief. I attempted to run out through the door just like the mice did but as soon as reached it, it slammed shut right in front of me. I sighed and turned back around. I knew I was brave enough, I would just have to finish off what I came here for. I was determined. I carried on searching the gloomy rooms for about an hour and found many strange ornaments and books. The place smelled rotten and the wallpaper was peeled with holes in the walls which let in the unwelcoming cold night air. There was one last room to look through. The last door was at the end of the corridor, I turned the door knob and tried to open it….it wouldn’t open. The strange thing was…there was no lock on the door. Then I heard a gentle scratching sound against the wall. Something was definitely in there…I was not alone
