That child that stands there through storm and thunder,
He's a strange one that arouses many to wonder,
He stands at the end whenever he hears the sea,
How devoted can a single child be?
He's never away from the rushing, drifting tide,
He walks every morning and afternoon not missing stride,
Finding the perfect spot to swing his legs down,
Provoking adults and children alike to frown,
He smiles freely at the fresh sea air,
Though sometimes I also watch, noticing a strand of hair,
So silky and smooth, so glossy and real,
The thought of a creature living within is surreal,
Can there really be a mermaid of sorts within the sea?
How couldn't anyone else have discovered them be?
Is this why the little boy does often stand ,
Waiting, watching at the headland?
