Her heart distorted frantically in the eerie night air Sensing another presence getting closer, she strained her eyes searching through the darkness.....
I could see nothing, was my mind playing tricks on me? I'd always been told that I had an over active imagination, yes of course it's just me and my silliness. I told myself.
I must've been mad, a night in Highgate's old cemetery jeez, what was I thinking, but then my new book demanded that my research of this place was thorough, I also wanted to get a real feel for it.
It was actually a beautiful place scattered with old Gothic tombs and mausoleums, and under normal circumstances I would've lost myself in the historic atmosphere.
But at this moment I would've given anything to be curled up asleep in my warm bed. I needed to find somewhere to tuck myself away and hopefully keep safe. It was getting darker and a damp fog seemed to be creeping over the graves.
I turned my thoughts to the matter at hand and decided the Egyptian avenue offered the most shelter from the the nights fog, I'd always thought myself a bit of a Cleopatra anyway. I had just settled down and started to write in my notebook, when I heard a low sound that seemed to be coming from just outside.
It was a voice but it spoke a language I'd never heard before, so how was it that I understood? It was calling my name and without even realising it my mouth had replied. Yet I didn't know what I was saying, it was as if I'd lost control of my own actions, I had become a spectator to them, I was under some kind of influence.
But who or what was controlling me.....
Stories aren't really my genre so I would appreciate feedback/criticism I'd quite like to continue this.
