Second by second, mile by mile,
The gap widens between my love and I.
The train cuts through the fields.
The plane slices through the sky.
It's been two hours since our final kiss,
Our final warm embrace,
My final squeeze of his graceful hands,
His final touch upon my face.
We couldn't hold back the tears, despite how hard we tried.
And now sunrise comes, a new day without him by my side.
I smile at its beauty, hope he sees it too.
Though we're far apart again, we're still under that same blue.
And although our paths are parting now,
Soon they'll join once more.
And each time we have to say goodbye,
We grow more strong and sure.
Unite, depart; unite, depart,
At most five more times, with luck.
Then we can close this chapter,
And move on to the rest of the book.
