20 January 2013
There's a hunger in me today.
I eat cereal, an apple, two bowls of stew,
Yet still the gap yawns.
Three glasses of water,
A cup of tea,
Do nothing to ease the ache.
That's when I know, it's not hunger I feel.
This gnawing void is something else.
I feel it in my stomach, true,
But also the tips of my fingers,
My knees,
The nape of my neck.
A combination of boredom, loneliness, and the bottomless, burning need of the long distance lover.
All I can do is wait, steadily growing hungrier,
And hope sustenance will come.
