Insufficiency

Trying to put pen to paper
(or thumb to keyboard)
Sometimes just doesn't cut it.
The words to express a thing don't flow.
This is because sometimes, words are not enough.
So when words fail me, please remember this:
Every squeeze of your hand
Every touch of your cheek
Every sidelong glance
Every nonverbal noise of affection
Every little quirk of the brow and lips
Is a thank you.
For seeing the darkness of me at my worst.
For helping me be my best.
And for loving me wholeheartedly and breathlessly,
Through all the distance and pain and noise.
A thank you for being unsurpassably,
Unthinkably,
Unapologetically
You.
When words fail me, I will resort to these meagre things. When these fail me, look down at the ring on my finger - whatever remains of my four score and ten is yours to keep.
