George was a man to be watched over, that was for sure. He was different, he could sense things others couldn't, hear things.
Hearing voices doesn't always make you mad, just different. We all hear them, George had just tuned in to another level of 'listening'; a sixth sense. Intuition or telepathy are other names for this ability over the centuries. However the 'doctors' surrounding him had never seen such power and he had been detained so they could harness this gift to their eager employers.
Fact Corp had been established in 2030 as Google crumbled. The sharing of information had led to a privacy loss for human kind on a disastrous scale. Identity theft, the widespread banking crash and failure of the stock markets had changed the world as we know it. People had no secrets, no identity that wasn't for sale to the highest bidder. Googles' blame in this access to everyone's information meant they were forced to sell and Fact Corp gained the largest social database on mankind to date. Backed by the mysterious Vabguards they rose to power. Seemingly knowing every move to make and always being one step ahead of their competitors as the world grew back to some sort of civilised place.
Using this opportunity Fact Corp ran a programme called 'Material W' to prevent the same actions happening again. Tech chips were installed into 99% of the population which streamlined all info directly to their information servers as the sharing of potentially sensitive information became outlawed.
We do not know whether the original Vabguards plan was for good or evil; but with power came evil and information was king.
