Chapter 10
I hop to my feet and get changed. I wear my blue flip flops, white dress and tie my hair back in a tight french braid with a blue ribbon on the end. Today was the chosing ceromony. They will chose who will stay Royal, Condor or Scavenger or who will move up or down leagues. Scavenger is on the bottom Royal on the top.
I skip down the sidewalk kicking pebbles on my way. I stop by the candy store and grab some candy from the front window without anybody noticing. Quickly, I stuff them in my dress pocket and run out the shop.
When I approach the lake I don't go for a swim. Instead I climb the apple tree and sit on one of the branches eating an apple. It was really relaxing until the wind started to blow, hard. I reach for the branch above me to regain my balence, but I miss. Stumbling down branch after branch, strach after scratch there are no more branches left to catch. I go strait down to the ground until something catches me midair.
I yelp and cling on to the figure for dear life. When I look up I see it was Toby. He would've looked like prince charming with his blowing black hair and blue eyes, if I wasn't so mad at him that is.
"You should have let me fall." I mutter jumping out of his arms. I jump up and reach for an apple and miss. He just laughs.
"And how could I do that?" he says smirking. He reaches up and easily grabs an apple from the branch above me. He offers it to me. I take it and chuck it at his stomach. He winces and leans forward.
"I would think it would be easy." I snap at him "You've watched me get dragged away before."
He frowns. "I'm sorry, but you have to understand it's not my fault." he points down to where his leg is covered in bandages. "I got shot." he mutters "Not bad really. I guess I was just in shock. Sorry, I really would have come after you if I was just-"
How did I not notice that? I was standin right there, I must have been to focused on myself. I stop him with one finger over his lips. "No I'm sorry." and I put my hands around his neck. He pulls me closer with his hands around my hips and kisses me. Lightly at first, and then more forcefully. His hand starts to reach the hem of my dress. Slowly I feal my dress ride up andhis hand getting closer and closer up my back. It freiks me out a little so to lighten the mood I push him in the water.
"Hey!" he says pushing his head out of the water. I laugh and smiles shaking his head back and forth like a dog to get the water out of his hair. "Now your turn!" he says climbing out of the water to reach me.
