46 years old Crying up a storm You don't want to go to work Your boss is horrible
Your 10 year old daughter Pats you on the back "Go to work Mom. I promise, it'll be okay."
Your eyes are puffy You refuse to smile I sigh and say "Why don't you miss one more day?"
You nod Reach for your phone Call in sick Then plan a therapy appointment
Your tears were gone But once you finished "I'm going to bed." Every single time
"Okay." You've been like this For one week We thought it'd pass
Little did we know Your depression Would rein supreme For 3 whole months
Took shifts Kept you talking The rare times You were awake
Pat on the back "You gonna go to work today?" You shake your head "Mom, you have to go.
"How are we gonna eat Or drink or bathe?" You stay silent Tears fall once more
"Mom, you have to go." My sister fights Knowing what's best For the family
Didn't go to work For another week Then she got it together For her children
When I was 10 She left us on our own 4 years later I still remember
Patting her back Every single day My 46 year old mom Who fell down and got back up again
