“Wake up! Wake up, or you’ll be late to school!” the voice said. Whose voice is this he thought? He didn’t have any time to interpret what exactly was happening, just the fact he was cold.

“I’m up,” were the words that escaped his lips. Why did they? Where was he? His eyes slowly opened, which showered a vivid world upon him. The last place he could remember was being shrouded in darkness. He repeated the words, “I’m up.”

His eyes had suddenly adjusted as his surroundings presented themselves. He heard a loud, startling noise at first, but the pain after was what had awoken him completely. His hand rose to his face, covering the pain. He recognized the person in front of him—his younger sister, who had perched herself over him; she backed off the bed though when he sat up. “Why did you slap me?!”

“I told you if I needed to wake you up again, I would. You deserved it. Next time, use an alarm clock.” He couldn’t argue that. He does recollect her saying this; he just never thought she was serious. When he looked into her eyes, he saw love. What he had wanted to see in them though was an apology, since the wakeup was more than asked for.

She bolted from the room. He stepped out of his bed and stretched, almost stumbling on the blanket on the floor. No wonder he was cold. He checked his computer for the time. He had ten minutes. Only ten minutes to get ready. There was a shower to be done, breakfast, and a number of other miscellaneous things that he realized he needed to do. A quick swipe of clothes he had set out last night, and out he pounced from his bedroom. He couldn’t help but wrinkle his nose at the smell in the air. The smell of breakfast was full of garlic. He couldn’t help but smirk a bit as he thought how the scent alone could tranquilize a vampire. He soon realized he ought to have paid more attention as to where he was going, as he smacked his toes on the door frame, and found the floor in his face. Ten minutes, he remembered. He got up into the shower while pushing back the pain, closing the door behind him. The garlic must have taken a blow to his senses, or so he thought, since his mind felt troubled by something and all he could conclude was the garlic in the air.

The warm water began to drain over him. He closed his eyes for the moment, and thought how this feels. He felt the water washing over him, around his shoulders, down his back…. His mind is what has him fixated the most. He could see everything over the course of his life completely clear when he thought of any one thing up to this exact moment. Even the math homework he did four years ago, that was completely forgotten yesterday was right there completely clear. Every word for word his teachers had spoke that year, even the glance at a mystery book with an interesting cover. All of his past was in full vibrant detail, all there at once. Looking at yesterday, he could see every step from when he woke up, to going to bed. He didn’t even need to try to memorize what he studied yesterday. Every bit of it was right there for him to see without thinking. Even his own thoughts during the day he could hear. He was losing sensation of the water from the shower washing over him, and he could no longer distinguish whether it was hot or cold.
