Chapter 1

It was a cloudy night, the moon barely shining through the thick clouds. It was Friday, meaning parties were being held all over campus. Ava stood in her room, debating on what outfit she should wear. Friday night was after all the best night for hunting. With all the parties going on, and all the drinking, she could sample all she wanted without anybody catching on. She finally settled on a simple black, thin strapped dress with a low-cut back. Ava liked the dress because it fit her snugly, hugging her curves while still being comfortable. It wasn't too short either, the hem brushing right above her knees. As she rifled through her shoes Ava couldn't help but let her mind wander to Demetri. He was her sire and their relationship was complicated, as in they were in a relationship when he was around. Demetri's problem was that he had a habit of traveling, a lot. He was never in one place for more than a week at a time, and sometimes not even that long. He just left a few days ago but she missed him terribly already. Ava couldn't find shoes that she wanted to wear. She was hoping for comfort but none of her flats matched the dress. "Maybe Macy has a pair I could borrow." Ava wandered into her roomate's room, heading straight for the closet. After a few minutes she found a simple pair of black ballet flats that fit her perfectly. "Macy! I borrowed a pair of your shoes!" A muffled "ok" was heard from the bathroom where the shower was running. Ava waltzed back to her room, tossing the shoes on her purple covered bed. She grabbed her brush, doing a quick run through of her long curly auburn hair. She did a few last minute touch ups, applying a light layer of eye shadow and liner. The dark colors she applied seemed to make her green eyes pop. "Come on Ava! We're hunting, not trying to get a date." Ava rolled her eyes, Macy was always like this. She firmly believed in getting out, hunting, then coming home. Ava believed she didn't know how to have fun. "I'm coming!" she called, grabbing her shoes. Macy was wearing simple blue jeans with a black t-shirt. Her blonde hair was pulled back ponytail style. "Well, don't you look pretty." Macy commented as Ava entered the room. "Thank you, I feel like I need to dress up a bit." "Since Demetri took off again?" Ava gave the woman a look that clearly stated, "Don't go there." "Ok, sorry. I know it's complicated but you just need to move on and find someone else." "Easy for you to say." she muttered, heading for the door. "You ready?" "Yes, and Gwen said she would meet us there." "Awesome, let's go."
