Chapter 3

A smile was plastered on Ava's face as Macy and her descended the stairs. Gwen was waiting for them by the back door. She had her blonde hair pulled up into two little buns atop her head, the pink half decorating the lower portion of her skull and resting just on her shoulders. Gwen stood impatiently, her boot tapping the ground. She was wearing a simple emerald green dress with flowing sleeves that brushed her elbows. The hem hugged her lower thighs. Her boots were heeled, the same color as her dress. They were calf high, and one of her favorite pair. "Finally!" she muttered, giving an exasperated sigh. Macy pulled Ava towards the door, "The Bat King called an emergency meeting, you can feed afterwards." Kaleb, aka The Bat King, was the head of the community in their area. Every community had one, so all hell wouldn't break loose. "Let's go before we're late." Gwen said, taking off with lightning speed. Ava's smile was gone, long gone. She hated meetings. As she took off towards the abandoned theater that was used she couldn't help but think back to her first meeting... ................... It was ten years ago, on a fairly bright night. Ava had just been turned a few months prior. Demetri had stayed with her for the first year before he started coming and going. He escorted her to the meeting, still showing her the ropes. When they had arrived the place was packed like sardines. This old theater building had held plays, not showed movies. He led her up a flight of stairs to the balcony. There were less vamps there. Soon the place was packed. A man walked out onto the stage. He was tall, about six foot or so. When he spoke his voice boomed and she was sure people could hear him for miles. A small light shone off his almost bald head, his hair was shaved down to practically nothing. His eyes seemed to pierce through her, even from the balcony. She shivered as his eyes settled on her briefly. Moving closer to Demetri she felt comfort as his arm settled around her shoulders. "My subjects! My children! It has been brought to my attention that some of you are getting careless, leaving your prey bleeding on the ground. That is not how we hunt! You either kill or seal the wound and make them forget. If you are caught not taking proper precautions you will be severely punished. We do not need to be found out!" ....................... Ava's mind snapped back to the present as she came upon the old theater. Macy stopped by Gwen who was staring. "Tensions are high, I can feel it. This is big." Gwen looked at them and for the first time since they had known her she looked scared. "Well let's get in there before it gets too packed." Gwen and Ava nodded, filing in with everybody else. The vampires were on edge tonight.
