It had been the first time they had been together since the beginning of the summer. She was quiet and uncomfortable and he was awkward and still adorable, they made their way to the raft just as they had done before at a birthday bash for a friend. He seemed nervous when he blurted out. "You know that feeling you get when you're drunk the 'I don't give a fuck feeling,' and I just get it 24/7 now. It's fucked up." His piercing blue eyes turned away to the side and stared at something behind her. She maneuvered her body to make sure nothing was there and slowly turned back. "Yeah that is fucked up." She responded with no filter in her words. Silence over came the night as the raft floated back and forth with the wind. Maybe that was the wrong thing to say so she continued, "I mean, are you okay? You just seem a lot different now." He shot her a look of unsureness and said, " Yeah I'm good." Nothing else was spoken. You could only hear the crickets singing their sad summer ending song, and catch the stars fading as fall approached. He had changed a lot since summer had begun, but she didn't want to force any words out of him.
