I got a part time job at the biggest music studio in the UK. At first, I was making tea and handing biscuits round, but I ended up a world away...
My first day at Rockall Records. I walk in to state-of-the art glass building, painted in primary colours, and I breathed a just audible sigh of 'Wooah'.
A lady wearing stylish framed glasses and a smart blazer hurried up to me, her honey blonde hair in a messy bun.
'Are you the new PA?', she asked impatiently, shouting down the phone at someone a few seconds after. I started to nod, but then the lady said 'Follow me.', and walked briskly off, her high heels clicking. I followed her nervously. As she pressed elevator buttons with scrabbling fingers, she explained what my day-to-day duties would be. 'You make the tea, offer biscuits and things. And you do the in/out trays, and tell the clients where to go. Oh, and by the way, I'm Rochelle. Senior manager.' I was just about to nod once again, when Rochelle clicked out of the elevator and pointed to a door. 'Kitty Silksell. She'll be your manager. See you round, I guess.' She rushed off, shouting to someone down the phone again. I tapped on the door nervously. What if she took one look at me, my jeans, my attempt at being smart blazer, my rainbow nails and all and declared I wasn't good enough?
'Come in!', said a soft voice. She didn't sound at all like brisk business woman Rochelle. I tip toed through the door, and glanced around the room. I loved it. It was so vintage and cool. Kitty Silksell had short, wavy blonde hair and kind baby blue eyes. 'You must be Robin. The new PA, right?' I knew I was going to like Kitty. 'Have a seat. Here's a map, you can go look around Rockall if you want.'
I smiled at Kitty shyly. 'Thanks. Can I ask you a question?'
'Sure.'
'Who are your clients?'
'Everyone who's anyone in this business.'
My mouth dropped open.
