How she wished she'd asked him for his card. She'd handed hers over and expected him to reciprocate. That's the way it happens. Shake hands - exchange business cards. But he hadn't. Why not? A multitude of reasons had passed through her over active mind, the most obvious of them ruled out by common sense and reason. 1. He didn't have any left. What sort of self respecting executive would run out of business cards at a conference? 2. He didn't see her as a worthwhile contact. Everyone knows there's no such thing as too many contacts. 3. He forgot. Come on. Now she was just clutching at straws. 4. He thought she was unattractive and wanted to ensure he never saw her again. Her frail self esteem reinforced this theory. That was it. He found her repulsive.

But in the back of her mind there was a little voice saying quietly, 'what if he likes you? What if he's scared of what could happen?' He could be married with ten kids for all she knew. The hopeful little voice kept whispering 'its because he likes you. He's keeping his distance. He's powered by common sense - unlike you young lady!' All these thoughts buzzed around in her head as she lay alone in bed. What was he doing now? Was he all alone in a big bed too or was he tucked up with someone? The thought made her tingle and shudder at the same time.
