She ran to the door then paused for a second. The voice of reason in her head asked 'Are you absolutely sure about letting this stranger into your house and into your life?' 'Don't be ridiculous' she said out loud. 'It's Graham. My Graham' and with that she opened the door. He was lifting a bag from the boot of his car. The street lights behind him made it hard for her to focus on him. As his feet crunched across the gravelled driveway towards her she was conscious that she was holding her breath.
He approached the front door and put down his bag. 'Kathryn, I...' but his voice trailed off. It had been a very difficult day. She held out a hand for him. 'Come inside. I'll make you a cup of tea' she said gently. 'Haven't you got any decent coffee?' he said with a forced grin. They looked at one other and smiled. They had so much to learn. He took her hand and went into the house. He pushed the door shut behind them and for the first time they were alone together. She was beautiful. Long blonde hair that cascaded around her shoulders. Those bright green eyes that had captivated him the very first time he'd looked into them. 'Wow' he whispered. 'You really are something Kathryn' He dropped his bag and pulled her to him and held her close. It felt so good. He'd had a terrible day but holding her in his arms made all the pain melt away. He knew there would be hard times ahead but he was certain that he'd done the right thing. He tried to look at Kathryn but she had her head buried in his chest and she wasn't letting go. She never wanted this moment to end.
