A Stack of Books

A Stack of Books for my lush, small nightstand
A glass of water rests on the books
Solitary, I swallow and I snuggle in my comfy sitting spot
The wall beside me holds the frames. The lamp
Lights up my page as the windows
Cannot. The sun has gone down so long ago

An itch at my ankle. At my back's expense,
I reach forward to itch it. My hand
Loosens its grip on the pencil
As my thighs hold up my notebook,
My muscles let me snuggle again. I am
Comfy.

The basketball
Dribbles. She passes it
To me. I drop it.

Gravity sucks me
Inward. Inertia
Keeps me
From moving.

She's sitting on my lap.

It would take more than one match to burn all of this down.
