I step down from the train so slowly Stop - and take a look around me At the new buildings that surround me I've been away too long It takes a while to get my bearings The house is eastward down the highway Hitch a truck that's going my way I'm back where I belong
One more mile and I'll be there now Down the lane and through the heather There were times I thought I'd never Return to see this land There's the farm and there's the stables There's a thousand special places Forgotten names, familiar faces Old friends who take my hand
I turn the corner, there before me A stooping figure in the garden I whisper " Hey, I beg your pardon. Do you remember me?" The frail old lady turns to face me At first she shows no signs of knowing Then all at once the tears are flowing She cries " Son! can it be?"
Home again at last I've made it Back to where the whole thing started The world's a stage and I have played it But home is where my heart is.
