Today, while walking utterly aimlessly about in town like I do, I noticed an old man on the floor. I could see, even from a distance, that he looked worried and slightly upset trying to pick something up. It made me feel ridiculously angry that from the hoards of people hurrying past, no one had the decency to stop and help him. It turned out he had dropped his wallet, and was trying to regain his pennies, but then didn't have to strength to get back up. Plenty of people walked past and gave him a sympathetic look, but what good was that going to do? I rushed over, collected the last of the stray coins, and helped him to his feet. He looked at me with utter shock and couldn't stop thanking me. I had done something any respectable human being would do, and was instead being treated like I had saved the Dalai Lama from the top of a burning building. Off he went with the biggest smile I had ever seen, and it make me think; is everyday kindness that scarce in today's society?
