I'm going to take some time to talk about Time Travel, how it could be achieved, and how in the future we as a population could think of travelling through time as nothing more than a bus journey in the minds of present day you or I.
The first thing you need to know about when you comprehend the possibilities of time travel, it's the 'Universal Speed Limit' this term refers to, what is believed to be, the maximum speed ANYTHING can travel at in our Universe, it is also the speed that light travels at; approx. 300000000 meters per second.
You may have heard when you were younger about Superman, and how if he was to fly fast enough around the world, he would turn back time. The logic in time travel is sort of similar, scientists believe that if you travel at the speed of light, then attempt to exceed it, you will 'travel into the future'. You may be asking yourself, "How is that possible? You would just get to your destination faster?" this is a common misconception. If humans built a space shuttle that could exceed the Universal speed limit, as they approached it, because of the laws of the universe, time on-board the shuttle would warp and slow down to stop it breaking the limit. This wouldn't result in you teleporting into the future, but rather the world outside of the shuttle would travel at a normal pace through time while you would go more slowly. As a result, a few hours in the shuttle might be a day on earth. This time gap would increase dramatically as your speed increased.
Mind bender - what if somebody ran while inside the shuttle, wouldn't they exceed the limit? What would happen?
