Chapter 4: The Secret behind the Maze

Jasmine walked down the damp maze looking for a way out while thinking about her brother. "I wonder if he's alright, hopefully he hasn't got himself into any trouble." She quickly looked back to see if he was following, he was nowhere in sight. Jasmine turned her head back, to find a short green goblin with green eyes, two long pointy ears and a broad nose with hair poking out through the nostrils. The goblin had a friendly smile that spread across his face. The goblin just wore baggy shorts and in his hands were silver buckets filled with wood. "What are you doing here?" questioned the goblin. "Well my mother was captured by an eagle, our village was burnt down by some horsemen. Then Slither saved us by bringing us here, we then saw snakes on her head. That's when me and my brother thought she was going to attack us so we headed for the maze." "Where's your brother?" the goblin asked with a shocked face. "We had an argument and went our own way, I hope he's alright?" "I doubt it," the goblin said while shaking his head,"there are lots of deadly creatures in this world and they're not all friendly." "How do I get out of this maze? I need to find my brother."

The little goblin walked over to a rocky wall that was hidden behind some ivy that was scaling up the wall. The goblin placed his left hand onto the wall and in a few seconds the wall flashed and started to slide open. "Follow me I know where you can get out and by the way, my name's Ragz." "Please to meet you Ragz, my name's Jasmine," she said in a polite way.

Jasmine walked through the pitch black tunnel stepping carefully, so that she didn't trip. Then in a blink of an eye, flickering lights zoomed down the corridor. Jasmine admired the house that was built inside a maze wall. "Wow...What a lovely house you have Ragz?" "Well thank you, it's taken me three years to finish this house off the way it's looking now. Why don't you stay for some tea before you set off again?" Jasmine's belly rumbled and squelched. "Okay, I'll stay for a bit, but I must be on my way searching for my brother." Ragz went over to the cupboard then scanned through the food. Ragz brought out a plate with a wooden lid on top. He placed the plate onto the wooden table, which was in the middle of the living room. Ragz then took off the lid to reveal lots of slimy worms wriggling. The goblin leant forward picking up a pink juicy worm between his long stained yellow nails. With his sharp teeth he pierced the skin making the worm's guts ooze out, covering the goblin's mouth. His wet tongue poked out and licked the food from around his face. Jasmine began to feel sick watching the goblin stuff the worms in one by one. Her face began to turn a pale white. Ragz stopped what he was doing. "Are you alright?" Ragz asked with his mouth full. "it looks like you seen a ghost." Jasmine thought quickly for an answer to say. "It must be because... I need fresh air, not used to being underground, is it okay if we can go now please?" "Of course you can, my dear, I'll just collect my stuff." Ragz walked over towards the cupboard and swung open the door. Inside was an old torn ragged old cloak. He wrapped the cloak around him and tied a knot by his neck to secure it in place. Ragz then reached out for his dagger that was safely placed in a brown pouch within the top right hand corner. He checked if the dagger was sharp by sliding his finger down the edge, then slipped it back into the pouch and tied it to his baggy shorts. "I've got the dagger just in case we bump into any trouble along the way. I'm going to stand by your side until we get to the castle." "Thank you," replied Jasmine nervously. Ragz tapped the floor three times with his foot, all of a sudden the floor began to rumble and crack. Jasmine began to panic and flung herself up against the wall. "What's happening?" Jasmine asked in shock "It's okay the floor is making stairs down towards the cave, where we can get to Snowy Mountain." Ragz walked down the stairs grabbing a flamed torch that was half way down. Jasmine quickly prised herself from the wall and took her time heading towards the cave. On her way down she felt something in her pocket. She pulled out a pink diary with a glittery pen that was thin as a twig. It was a present from her mother and father when it was her eighth birthday. She opened the diary and was reading about the good times. When she went fishing with her family by the river, her father taught Arthur and herself every technique, so that they could catch some fish. Then she remembered the giant glowing fish that swam down the river to get to the sea. Her father used to say, "When you see the giant fish that glows, it brings you good luck."

The next day her father had to go to war. Soon they had a message saying that his body couldn't be found when a missile hit the plane, shattering everything inside. Ragz noticed a tear fall onto Jasmine's right cheek. "Jasmine, don't cry, I am going to help you find your family again," Ragz said in a soft voice. Jasmine wiped the tear away with her left hand. "Thank you Ragz, you're so kind hearted." Ragz's face boiled bright red. "Oh you're making me blush." They both laughed as they travelled through the cave making their way towards Snowy Mountain.
