Chapter 5
"I'll carry him down for you" Vivos said but Fortis shook his head so I tipped back the chair and wheeled him down like that. "Why do you hate people carrying you?" I ask him, "I don't hate it, I feel like a chore, carrying Fortis up and down the stairs" he says as I wheel him into the study to see Claudere putting blankets on the sofas. "Who's the one getting the sofa to them self?" I ask her, "You are, Fortis and Vivos are sharing one" she says and I burst out laughing, "You must be joking" I giggle, "Vivos and Fortis won't fit on one of those", "Mum wants it like that so don't blame me. Fortis your clothes are here and tell Vivos his clothes are also here" she said pointing to the sofa, "Vivos is behind me" I say, "Oh" she says and exits the study through another door.
"You to get changed, I'm going to find something to do" I say and walk out the room to find Iratus standing in front of me, "I know" he says "You are wanted by The Caeruleus, for letting Captionem live when she shouldn't have", "How do you know?" I ask him, "Squeezed it out of Vivos" he replies, "What did I say about pinning people to walls" I say rolling my eyes, "So what, you're not the boss of me" he says, "Cap is my friend and now you know, don't tell anyone" I say and walk back into the study where the boys were squirming around kicking each other in the face trying to get the other off the sofa. "Stop fighting, I'm exhausted" I say wearily, "You love Cap" Fortis blurts out and I roll my eyes and settle down under the blankets, "No I don't" Vivos says quietly followed by a mutter and Fortis jumps out from under the covers and wrestles him pinning him to the sofa and shoves a cushion into a face smothering him, "Stop fighting, jeez" I say, "Why?" Fortis says and carries on smothering Vivos. So I get up and pull Fortis to the ground, "Stop it" I yell at him "Why were you doing it in the first place? He's your best friend", "Never mind" he says and I go back to bed.
I thought I was feeling better. I clearly wasn't, my teeth were chattering, my arms were shaking and I was curled up in a ball. "Are you ok" Fortis asks me walking slowing over so he didn't fall. He must have heard my teeth. He places his hand on my forehead, "Your a little better", "I hope so" I say and he sits on the side of the bed and cradles me in his arms until I fell asleep.
Morning came and Cap did the honour of waking us up. She woke me up first and showed me two socks with elastic bands attached to them. "Watch" she whispers and creeps over to Vivos and lightly puts it round his head the sock under his nose. "Three. Two. One" she says and Vivos starts a violent coughing fit, "Shhh" she whispers to him and puts the other around Fortis head making so the sock is directly under his nose, "This is the worst. Three-" she said and the violent coughing fit started and using one finger Fortis broke the band and helped Vivos get his out his hair. "Nice way to wake us up" he says sarcastically, "Yeah" she says, "You used it on Parva" Vivos said and I was surprised it was him not Fortis, "No, she isn't cranky like you when she is woken up" she replies. "Let's get going, no time for you three to get changed, you over- " she says but stops, "Vivos? Fortis? Why didn't get changed last night" she says, "To tired" they both reply, "Ok, Parva, you just put your jeans on and lets go, I've packed breakfast" she says and leaves the room followed by Vivos and Fortis.
I looked ridiculous, a long nightdress over my ragged jeans. As soon as I walked out the room Cap burst out laughing and someone elbowed her, I only knew someone did because I heard an "Oww! Why did you do that?". I quickly nipped upstairs to get a belt or a t-shirt. When I got up there I packed a clothing bag for Cap and I full of my clothes and two more from Iratus' clothes for Fortis and Vivos. I wasn't bothered to change out of my nightdress but I did roll it up, tuck it into my trousers and put on a belt. I chucked the bags down the stairs and hurried after them. "Packed" I say, "Wow, your a fast packer" Vivos said, "Thanks" I say "Everyone take a bag and leave".
We all grabbed a bag and made our way out the door to the fence. Where else would we go? We are lucky that The Caeruleus didn't come for me while I was at home, maybe they are waiting for me, watching my every move, reading my thoughts pushing me closer and closer to danger. Next time The Caeruleus and I meet, it's likely Fortis will be killed if he does what he did when they first came for me. I shuddered at the thought seeing Fortis' mangled body outside my house knowing that he isn't unconscious or subconscious. Dead. He is more than just a friend, well to me anyway. To Cap, well, she thinks he is useless at hunting but brilliant at keeping watch, mainly because it lowers the probability of her doing it. Vivos just thinks he is rubbish at everything apart from being a best friend and a utter retard. But we're cool with that.
We were in complete silence while walking to the fence wondering what danger may befall us or what creature of darkness may be lurking in the shubbery we'll pass.
