Chapter 13
The guns were pointed at me again only to be shot at with my middle finger and in fear of being shot at, I whip out the taser. "Weapons down" I command them and they follow my orders making me feel important. "Make way people" I hear a voice from part way down the corridor, "Part like the red sea". It was Christabell. She pushed her way through the soldiers, trying not to touch them as if they were mud. As she shoved the last soldier to the side, all I could hear was an ear splitting scream. I was crushing my ears with my hands trying to block out as much noise as possible. "It's a dead boy" Christabell screeched pointing at Fortis' limp body, "What did you do to him girl?" she snapped, her finger now pointing in my direction, the light shimmering off her ruby red nail varnish on her talon of an index finger. "Take him to the hospital" she ordered to soldiers. Each soldier put their arms underneath the body making a human stretcher and started to move down to corridor. As soon as they disappeared round the bend Christabell turned to face me. "What did you do?" she asked, "I didn't taser him" I snap, "Whats this then" she said snatching the taser form my hand, "I didn't taser him" I repeat trying to keep calm, "Then who did?" she asked, "The soldiers" I reply, "They were going to shoot me but then Fortis came through the door and pushed me into the wall just as the taser fired", "What was he doing in your cell?" she asks, "He's my boyfriend" I snap, "Do you really want an alibi of my life", "Don't talk to me like that" I snapped, "Well you are an interrogator by nature" I reply, "Do you really want to lose the baby when I taser you. Eight months now?" she said, "No. Seven and-" I reply "This is powerful enough to kill a grown man. It will obviously kill an unborn child. I'm not surprised your boyfriend is gone" she cackled. The word gone echoed through my mind. Gone. Gone. Gone.
I didn't notice Christabell had left since the word 'gone' had left me in a kind of trance. I power walked to the hospital, carefully following the signs until I came to the right door (I only knew because every hospital room had a window). I banged my fist and demanding entry and then the door opened. I quickly barged past the doctor who had opened it straight to the side of the bed. "Fortis" I whispered looking at the still lifeless body. "We fear he may be in a coma for the next few weeks but it's not certain" the doctor that I barged past said to me putting his hand on my shoulder. "When will you know of certain" I ask him, "If he's in a coma he won't wake up, well let's see it's about 2pm now. He won't wake before 8pm" he replies staring at his watch, "A coma sweetie is a long long sleep" I voice came from the corner of the room. Resonare. "What do you want?" I ask him marching up to him, "You never told us Caeruleus members about the date" he replied, "What date? It's the seventh of September" I reply confused, "The due date, you idiot" he giggles, "The twelfth of December" I reply, "Good and try not to get tasered" he say but I can still see the grin on his face as he leaves the room. I turned around to face Fortis, he looked so peaceful. "Miss Clearbank, coma patients like to be spoken too, so feel free to pop in here every day or so" the doctor says "We'll leave you two in peace" and he leaves the room followed by a nurse, a doctor and Doctor Woodsmoke but she didn't make eye contact. After the door closed I made myself comfy in the chair beside the bed the tears were already starting to trickle down my cheek. "I don't think you can hear me but I hope you can" I begin and hold his hand, "I wish, I wish that you weren't where we are now. It's a-all m-my f-fault. If only I didn't go wandering and then you wouldn't be in this state" I hesitated, the tears now gushing down my cheeks landing on my clothes, the duvet on the bed and his hand. I couldn't bear to look at him without the echo saying its my fault. I was power walking to the cell door that was again unguarded but I didn't see any point in escaping. As soon as I got in, I couldn't help but cry myself to sleep and had to bolt the door shut so Opacare wouldn't come in when she heard my howling screams and the sound of glass smashing.
Weeks past and I spent every day, every hour and nearly every minute by his side but there was no signs of improvement. The date was edging nearer. It was now the tenth of October and all that was on my mind is will Fortis ever wake.
