Chapter 15
I've has a tough time recently. I've been wetting the bed frequently. I don't know if it's either because I'm close to ending my pregnancy or I'm just extremely anxious about what the future holds for me, Fortis and Yasmin. Recently Captionem has been knocking on my door asking for advice since she and Vivos have been put in the same cell and Cap is finding it awkward to make conversation with Vivos.
I was sitting in the armchair silently, enjoying the few rays of sunlight that I receive a day, when a loud knock on the door startled me. "Come in" I say knowing it was Captionem for her nearly daily boy talk, "Parva, I need help" a voice said as the door opened. It was Vivos. "Help with what?" I ask, "It's hard making conversation with Cap. She's not interested in anything and its usually just small talk or someone asking do you like this and the other answering either yes or no and we shut up for half hour or so" he complains. This is something that will stop me from watching the clock, something interesting. "Do you play cards?" I ask, "That's what we do, every second of every minute of every day of every week of every month" he replies "Do you play cheat, old maid, go fish, beggar my neighbour, snap and matching pairs?" I ask, "Yeah, we do but we can't play poker unless you want to scavenge for fluff and things like that" he says, "Ok. Well, girls like to talk about clothes, boys, baking. I don't know, I really don't, sorry" I say, "Oh ok" he says and turns and leaves, "Wait" I say and Vivos poked his head around the door, "What about, be yourself" I say smiling and Vivos gives me a suspicious look. I'll be a matchmaker if this works out. I can tell they both like each other but are both so shy. I wonder how Caeli and Caelum are stood in the cold at least they'll be off duty a twelve. Yesterday the crib arrived, a beautiful wooden pink crib decorated with white spots and a wooden mobile with a white star, cream moon, lilac fairy wings and a pink fairies wand. The crib was pushed against the wall beside the chair. Yasmin now has her own wardrobe full with matching clothes as well and I'm just worried about the whole matching dress hypothesis. I walk to the door and take a peep outside. "No guards" I mutter to myself and I go for a walk to try and find the cell that Vivos and Captionem are in.
As I wondered down the empty corridors I heard the sound of Cap screaming her head off most likely at Vivos. I hurry to the cell that the sound was coming from. "WHY THE BLOODY HELL DID YOU KISS PARVA?" she screeches, "WELL I LIKED HER AND I WANTED HER TO KNOW THAT" Vivos yells in reply, "YOU LIKED HER. HOW MUCH?" Cap interrogated him, "AS BLOODY WELL MUCH THE SAME AS I LIKE YOU" Vivos yells back and then there was total silence, I realise this is a bad time to be knocking on a door when the people inside are arguing. I did that when I was younger, I walked in on my parents when they were in one of their arguments. I have always seen myself as culprit of their divorce and always will be. I noticed that there was no noises whatsoever coming from the cell but I put my ear to the door to double check that one hadn't been smothered and making dying distress sounds or Cap killed Vivos with a hit to the temple or has drowned him with the water from a water bottle. I realise I don't have the hearing of a bat and check the door for any holes. What the? There's a key hole. What type of cell door needs a key when it has a bolt. I take a peek through the key hole. Holy cow, I am a matchmaker oh, I really should avert my eyes.
I quietly sat in my room proud yet lonely since I don't get any more visits from Cap nor Vivos. It's nearly twelve. At least I'll have some company. "Hi, what sup" I hear Caeli say poking her head round the door. I forgot that I left the door open. "Nothing really" I lie knowing that Vivos and Cap don't want their relationship public yet or they want to hear it coming out of Vivos and Cap, not me, a nosey parker of a girl. "So. You seen Fortis lately?" Caelum asks me, "No, but, never mind" I say sort of relieved that I didn't spill the beans. "But what?" Caeli asks, "Yeah, you can tell us" Caelum says indicating that I really need to change the subject, "Why don't we go and see him now" I say and stagger to my feet, "Yeah" Caeli says giving her brother a suspicious look that I'm not telling them something. "Cap and Vivos are in cell 264" Caeli says, "I'll go and get them". And then faster than you can say boo to a goose, I was once again trying to keep up with them as they sprinted down the corridor. "This is it" Caelum says, "What shall we do, knock, spy on them through the keyhole or slide open the hatch thing?", "Hatch thing" she says just as I reached the door, "It's stiff" Caelum moans trying to slide it open, "Big sissy" she says and pulls it open and we all peer inside and I immediately avert my eyes.
"Do you mind" I hear Cap snap, "I thought that, never mind" Caelum says and averts his eyes, "We're going to see Fortis. Want come with?" Caeli beamed, "Ok" Cap says but Caeli cuts get off, "It's locked this time" she says, "Shoot" she says and pulls up the table and transforms into the blonde rabbit, hops onto the table, out the hatch and onto my head when I wasn't looking making me scream with fright, "Your face. Utterly priceless" Cap giggled. Meanwhile Vivos put back the table and transformed into a swallow and landed on the closest head since we all started following Cap who forgot about Vivos. Annoying the head he was now perched on belonged to me. "You could write your own version of the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy" I say thinking about about a bird that hitchhiked on people's heads.
As soon as we walked in the room, Vivos found a place to perch while I got the four chairs ready around the bed, "Make yourselves comfy" I say and within seconds everyone was sat down apart from Vivos. "Sit" I snap at the bird that makes me look like I'm out of my mind, but it worked. And with that, Vivos was flying towards the chair, carelessly knocking down the calendar. "Watch where you fly next time" I snap again.
I leaned over to pick up the calendar but before I could reach it I felt a small pop within me and within seconds my trousers were soaked. I was fine though, then hell started. The contractions. Pain screamed through my body causing me to collapse, my head against the wall. Everyone rose out of their seats and raced towards me. I was screaming my head off as the contractions carried on, I was kicking my legs frantically, "Parva, calm down, you'll be alright" I hear voice say and I immediately stop. "Vivos has taken Caelum to hunt down a doctor or nurse. We've at least got to get you onto the corridor". As I was helped out of the room, I looked back at the bed and saw probably what was my imagination but it was so real I couldn't help but believe it. Fortis was stirring in the bed as if he could hear my screams.
