Mary smiled at Anna and Peter then turned swiftly to her room her face red with embarrassment and closed the door. Her bedroom used to be her Mothers after her untimely death in later in 1919 only two weeks after Lavinia's death and Cora looked fine. "Curse that Spanish flu" she uttered under her breath. "Flu" a small voice repeated, she looked down. There giggling in her arms were Elizabeth "Flu" she giggled again. Mary's heart skipped two beats. Mary got up and made her way quickly to a door in the corner of the room, she opened it slowly since it made a awful creaky noise and she was being careful not to wake to maids and the Butler Stevenson up. She crept down the narrow corridor and put her ear to the door, she could hear voices. It was Bates and Matthew. Mathew was probably getting ready to hit the hay after and long and extremely confusing day. Then the door suddenly opened Mary fell backwards and Mathew jumped three inches into the air. "Mary" Mathew said sounding stunned "You gave me a shock, what is it" "She spoke" Mary said quickly "Who spoke" Mathew said sounding confused "Flu" Elizabeth giggled holding onto her rattle tightly. Mathew looked at Mary and they both looked down at fidgeting Elizabeth. Strangely this made both Mary and Mathew smile. But this was no ordinary smile, this was a smile of comfort and love that lasted a life time.
