A friend of mine was trying to quit smoking, but wanted a smoke one day while we were having a drink at a local coffee shop/bar. He bought a pack inside, had a couple, then handed the rest to me for safe keeping. The pack stayed in my purse for months, in case someone needed to bum a smoke; Austin is paradoxical like that: vegan-crazy but filled with smoking hipsters. It was a couple of months before I realized that cigarettes do not stay "fresh" indefinitely. I replaced them with a book of matches and eagerly await for someone to ask me for a light.
