Chapter 24: Lucas The last stage “Holy-” I thought out loud as I took one look at the scene before me. Giants walked clumsily around a lake, fallen angels fought against each other on rocks and seven Minotaur’s stared at me from a distance. “What the hell is that?” Sam asked. He was staring at one of the giants. “A giant” I replied “Welcome to the ninth stage of Dante’s inferno” Yes, Dante’s inferno. I sighed. That’s when I realised I was knee deep in water. “I think this is where I leave” said Sam “No!” I growled “You will get me out of this stage!” My voice was cold and harsh but I was so desperate to get to Jane. "I don’t think you’ll be needing him Lucas” Called a voice. Lucifer. I turned to find Jane clinging on to Lucifer. He clicked his fingers and the Sam was no more than a pile of dust. I gasped. “Jane” I whispered. She looked at me like she didn’t know who I was. “How do you know my name?” Jane asked. What? “Huh?” I replied. She didn’t know who I was. “I’ve told him about you before darling.” He kissed her and she kissed him back. What the hell was going on here? “Get your filthy hands off my girlfriend” I snapped. “What are you going on about?” Jane asked. He made her forget me. That evil little- “Jane what has he done to you?” I nearly yelled at her. “What do you mean? He’s my fiancé. How dare you call me your girlfriend.” My heart stopped. It shattered as I fell to my knees. Lucifer only smiled. But I knew Jane was different. “Darling. Maybe we should take him back with us.” She was being kind to me. “Good idea princess” He replied. They walked over to me and we vanished. The next thing I knew was that I was lay in a bed somewhere in his house. I sat up and found Jane sat on a chair on the other side of the room. She was staring at me. “I know you.” She said. Her voice as cold as ice. “I know you do. You’re my girlfriend.” I replied but she only sighed. “No I’m not. Maybe I was once but I don’t remember and I can’t be now” “Why? I came all this way to save you and-” She cut me off. “Save me? I didn’t need saving” she cried. Oh great now you made her cry. “You did. He took you from me. He made you choose between saving me and letting me die. You chose to save me so he took you.” She walked over to me and took my face in her hands. “You’re very brave” She said still crying. “Do you remember anything? Do you remember flying with me? Do you remember any of the times I kissed you? ” She hissed at that last question and she pulled her hands away. Too far, I thought “Where is Lucifer?” I hated him. “In there” She pointed to a door. “Please, will you get him for me?” she wiped away her tears as she walked out. About a minute later Lucifer and Jane were stood inside the room. She clung to him like he was her source of power. Maybe he was. He had his arm around her to comfort her. Jealously rushed though me. “Lucas, son” I growled when he said son. “What is the matter?” “What did you do to her?” I yelled. “Nothing” he smiled so I knew he was lying. “She’s mine” I shouted. His reaction was awfully cruel. He put his arms around her waist and kissed her. She kissed back as if I wasn’t there. Her hands were in his hair and he pulled the bobble out of her hair so it was long; he stroked her hair. His passionate kiss made her hold him tighter. There was a huge stinging pain in my heart. I couldn’t breathe it was that bad. It was like my heart was being ripped open. My hands were shaking and tears fell off my face. I sucked in small breaths at a time. Lucifer broke the kiss first. “Don’t we make the perfect couple?” My shattered heart screamed in pain. I wanted to kill him but I couldn’t find the strength to stand. Lucifer laughed but Jane watched my pain and tears fell from her face. She hid her face from Lucifer. “Darling I have business to attend to so why don’t you stay here with Lucas. I’m going to be out for about an hour. I’ll see you later” He gave her a goodbye kiss and left. She walked over to me and hugged me. “I’m so sorry” She whispered in my ear. When she pulled away I saw her glance at my lips but she turned away almost instantly. She sat down on the bed. “I don’t think I can go through that again” I thought aloud. “I’m sorry I shouldn’t of-” I cut her off. “No it wasn’t you. I mean I don’t think I can go through this pain again” I said holding my heart “I can’t live without you Jane” She couldn’t do anything. “I-” she started. I leaned in to kiss her but she pulled away. “I can’t let him find out” “I’ll protect you” I promised. “You’re not strong enough. He’s powerful” Jane argued “I promise I’ll do everything I can. I’d die for you Jane” I cried “No” she said firmly. That’s it. I thought my heart was broken before but obviously I was wrong. It felt like pain had been injected into my heart. Tears ran down my face once again. I knew she couldn’t bare it so she leaned in and kissed me. I grabbed her gently by the face and pulled her closer. After a few seconds she sat on the bed motionless, I let go of her face. “Jane?” But she couldn’t hear me.
