Chapter 12 The Archangels
When we arrived at the fun park, I got out of the car. Lucas paid for us to get in. “Lucas you really should let me pay for my own things.” I said “I won’t let you” he replied. “That’s not fair; I don’t want to be the girl who relays on her boyfriend for money.” I moaned “Tuff” he said smiling. I frowned. “Ok so which ride first?” he said changing the subject. All the rides looked good. The scream, death plunge, the Ferris wheel, the dodgems... “How about the scream, first?” he nodded in agreement. “You won’t be scared. Will you?” “Yes. That’s the whole point” I said. “Of course” As we walked over, to the scream, I started to get chills. They crawled up and down my back then they ran down my arms. “Are you ok?” Lucas asked, I just nodded but he knew as well as I did I wasn’t, so he just frowned. I just couldn’t explain the feeling. “Two for the scream, please.” Lucas said to the man at the ticket stall. His pitch sounded higher than normal, it sounded beautiful and peaceful. Why had I only just noticed? “Sure” replied the man as he handed us the tickets. I could see the ride from a better view now, it was like a rollercoaster. There was a straight 90 degree drop and a great whole in the floor where the coaster cart would fall into. The structure didn’t look so sturdy but I guess it was meant to look like that, attracts more people and scares more people. It gave people more of a rush, adrenaline. Lucas and I continued to walk to the ride. I felt scared now, the closer I got the more scared I became. When we eventually got to the ride we walked to the platform. Nobody was there, apart for us and the ride guy. “We’re on our own. Front, middle or back, Jane?” he asked me. “Back” he nodded and climbed into the back seat, tapping the seat next to him. I climbed in too and started to feel painful butterflies in my stomach. “It’s safe” He assured me. He must have read my scared face, but I was convinced by his words. Those two words were all it took ‘It’s safe’. The ride started. It was slow at first but it was getting faster. Lucas put his arm around me and I smiled, but I couldn’t take my mind off the ride. It had just reached its maximum speed and was approaching the drop. A shadow passed in front of me and Lucas. I looked at him; the horror on his face was enough to know he’d seen it to. It had to be a fallen angel. Wait I thought it can’t be fallen angels can’t fly. I flashbacked on that mornings’ conversation and instantly realised why Lucas looked so horrified. It wasn’t a fallen angel but it was an ark-angel. I covered my eyes just in time to see the cart drop down and the ark-angel fly in after it…
